Congratulations on your purchase! We strive to provide you with the highest quality products that last for years. To ensure you get the best from our nappies here is a comprehensive guide on caring for them.
We advise pre-washing your nappies at least once before first use.
Natural fibres require additional washes to build absorbency. This varies depending on wash routines but please allow up to 10 washes to reach maximum absorbency.
Please Note, hemp will incur some shrinkage after the first wash. Don’t worry, our nappies are made bigger to accommodate this.
Pre-weaning, any solids are water soluble and you don't need to be tossed down the toilet. The nappy can be stored and placed directly into the washing machine on wash day. A good pre-wash is key (see below).
Once weaning starts, toss solids down the toilet. If desired, give a light rise. Store dirty nappies in a wet bag or in an airy bucket.
Top tip for storing dirty nappies: line container with a mesh bag so you don't need to re-handle the nappies again.
Nappies should always be dry pailed.
Pre-rinse
This is a 30 to 60 minute cycle that ensures you aren’t washing your nappies in dirty water. This can either be a cold rinse with no detergent or a 60-degree short wash with half dose of detergent. There is no correct way and depends on what works for you.
Main wash
Main wash every 2 to 3 days. Use a 2-3hr cotton cycle. Our nappies can be washed as 40 or 60 degrees, but 40 degrees is generally surfice.
For the main wash, it’s essential your drum is ¾ full (when wet) or full when dry. This is because good agitation is key for a thorough wash. You can bulk out this wash with baby clothes, pants etc (avoid anything bigger than a tea towel). Also avoid any dark clothes that may colour run onto the nappies.
Nappies are the dirties things you will wash, please ensure you use a full dose of detergent relative to your drum size and wash load.
Note:
Do not use fabric softner - this reduces the absorbency of the nappies. Do not use bleach.
Line dry outside or rack dry inside. Do not place on direct heat such as a radiator, this can damage the waterproof fabric and the elastic.
If you wish, you can tumble dry on a low heat, but excessive tumble drying may reduce your nappy life span.
